Support St. Peter's Health Partners Covid-19 Response Fund

Kathy Buffaline Patient Care Fund Review

This year, more than ever, we need your help.

We are disappointed that the traditional annual fundraiser for the Kathy Buffaline Patient Care Fund cannot be held this year due to COVID-19. In lieu of a personal gathering, we are holding the 17th annual event as a Charity fundraiser. Our ability to provide financial assistance and services to our critically ill and hospice patients is due to the generosity of staff payroll donations, patient donations, and proceeds from the annual fundraiser. This year, more than ever, we need your help so we can support the hundreds of patients that benefit from this important fund each year.

Our patients typically receive fixed disability and/or social security payments. Many times even routine expenses are difficult to cover, let alone something that is not foreseeable. Our staff from all disciplines identify patients in need and when a request is brought forward, we are able to respond only because of this fund.

This cause was named in memory of Kathy Buffaline who was an RN for over 40 years. She worked at the Eddy VNA and St. Peter’s Home Care for most of her career.

As a nurse, Kathy used her own personal funds to help patients pay for medication, medical equipment, and needed household items all while raising eight children. Because of Kathy’s children and the Eddy VNA, this fund was created to continue her legacy of giving.

Most of the items and funds provided to patients are needed due to emergency circumstances. Following are some of the items and services this fund has been able to provide:

  • Durable Medical Equipment – Wheelchairs, wheelchair gel cushions, canes, walkers, rollators, grab bars, shower chairs, commodes and supplies, catheter supplies, bariatric supplies
  • Medication
  • Lift Chairs
  • Hospital Beds
  • Mattresses, Bedding, and Critical Furniture/Household Items
  • Groceries
  • Utility bill payments to avoid service shutoff
  • Heating fuel
  • Wheelchair ramps to make homes accessible
  • Air conditioners and fans
  • Fixing dangerous home structures such as a hole in the roof
  • Transportation to and from appointments/treatments
